My shoot:
My interpretation of the theme night photography was to show the streets at night with lights, e.g. from shops, hotels, beaches and cars. I took my photos in Marmaris, Turkey on the streets and promenade showing the different lights and the oceans reflection.
My best 3:
What i could have improved on in this shoot would have been to check the photos after I took them so that I could change something in the photos to make them even better, e.g. the exposure.
I think in my best 3 images the mix between the lights and the dark night looked really good together and showed the vibe of the town.

Contrast:
I chose the theme contrast because i thought i could interpret it in a lot of different ways. My initial interpretation of this theme was to show contrast in colours, i.e. bright colours compared to more dull monotone colours.

Next time I could have taken closer up photos so that I didn't have to crop our some of the things in the background.
I think these photos turned out good because I like the contrast in the white outfit with the Jamaican flag, I think this gives the images vibrancy and I think it gives focus to the flag.

I think in these images I could have focused more on just the water and could have tried to leave out little bits of the boats, rocks or people.
What I think went well with these pictures was was in the best 3, for example in the last one how you could see the contrast between the sea and the sand giving a very peaceful and calm feel to it. I also think that my second image in my best 3 turned out really well with view of the mountain's in the back and the positioning of were i put the camera to show all the calming waves from the back of the boat, I think this showed serenity in my eyes.

Development 1: Film noir street photography
I want to develop my night photography project because I think that it represented my style of photography and i really liked how the photos turned out
To continue this I am going to create a film noir type of photos, by collaborating the city at night with a silhouette type of thing with someone moving with fabric of make the person the focus and a the city in a blur.
Noir is the French word for black and film noir are dark films that are known for their negative elements. Film noir photography is commonly known for its dark, moody and dramatic images that a lot of the time have the look and feel of dark scenes from the 40s,50s and 60s. Most of the time there is a huge contrast between the dark and light colours and the shadows are normally very dramatic.

I didn't really like how these photos turned out because it was very hard to capture the lights in the background and also being able to capture the models silhouette. To be able to see the model or her silhouette i had to turn a phone torch on which lit it up too much which I didn't like. However something I liked about these edits
Development 2: Henri Prestes
Henri Prestes is a Portuguese fine art photographer based in Southern Europe. He mainly focuses on capturing cinematic fleeting moments and explores narratives of solitude. He started going out at night to take photos and immediately found himself in love with this medium.'My photography work is mostly about exploring the cinematic and narrative possibilities of a single still frame, while also using weather conditions as a way to affect the emotional state of a photograph’.

I think that the different levels and angles of the images worked well, however the street lights were too bright making it hard to have a focused like just on my model. And I also think I could have gone to a different location because this one had too much stuff in the fames and I could get an angel without the stuff in it which made the images look not as good and less professional. Next time I would probably use a tripod to make the images less blurry and more sharp, find a new location and get better street lights or light to focus on my model.

What has improved in this set.
I think next time I could experimented with the exposures of the photos more and maybe tried other locations with different types of light, for example the green tunnel in parkland walk. I think that this set was a big improvement from the last one because I found better locations with stronger sources of light for my model to be near. I also thought about the composure of the images more which I think made the photos turn out looking contrasting between the light and dark which I liked.

Development 4: Niklas Porter
Niklas Porter was a Swedish photographer but grew up in a small town in Colorado, USA. When he was in his teens he moved back to Falun. Now he splits is time between both places working as a photographer and graphic designer. His fascination with photography developed 4 years ago after he found an emotional outlook for his creativity and emotions. Porter, in all his photographs, aims to capture a true feeling, however, if you ask him he would say 'the meaning of art really resides in the viewer'. Each individual person interprets it in their own way. He is very drawn to the mystery and mood in low-light situations.
My shoot:
My aims for this shoot was to show how the light from shops (colourful lights) would look on my model and make her stand out. To build on my last shoot i wanted to move from street lights, bus stops, ect and the soul focus of one person in solitude, and develop it more into a person still in solitude but around shops/ places where you could see people but to photograph her outside them but when they are empty.

Gods own junkyard: Development 5
I went to gods own junk and covert garden and took photos of bright lights. when I went to covert garden I walk down the side streets and towards china town and focus on the small side streets with bright shop lights. I photographed my model in front of these shops tying to capture just her silhouette in the colourful lights of the shops only. When I went to gods own junkyard I just took pictures of the bright and colourful antique like signs some close and some faraway and want to edit them onto photos of a model close up and far away.

I think that these images turned out really well because of the composition of the different fluorescent/neon signs projecting onto my model which made it look like she was actually in the images think if i re did this shoot i could try to place my model into different positions and angles to create a different atmosphere, and different mood to the images.

Development 8: Lee Kirby ,projections
Lee Kirby is a freelance photographer living in London. He was born in Norwich in the late 1970s. His work includes all type of photography such as portraiture and nature photography. He mainly works on fashion and portrait photography working for ministry of sound, cannon uk and many more. I am interested in Kirby's projection photography work, which he called 'Pro-Ject'. In these projection shoots, he uses a slower shutter speed because he believed that it went hand-in-hand with a projector. In order to do one of the projector shoots, two or more shoots are needed; One to have images projected, and the others are the final outcome of what the pictures have been projected onto.He uses a wide rage of colours varying from yellows, reds and oranges to blues, greens and lilacs. These colours stand out massively as the light from the projector gives them vibrance and radiance.
I liked the work he produced called 'pro-ject',this is were i took inspiration from. As my response i wanted to experiment with projections again. I wanted to incorporate the theme of my last few developments which was vibrant lights and colours and bring it together with movement of some sort. So i re used the photos i took at gods own junkyard and projected them onto my model. Then took a few series of images where i got my model to move her head in different directions to later on make it into gif's. |
Gif's final piece:
I think during the mock the most successful thing was how the end result of the gifs turned out. However if i re did this shoot i would work on my time management, for example making my model wear a light piece of clothing so that the projections would be more visible on the clothes, i would also like to experiment with how many models are in it having 2 or 3.
